iPhone Apps Crashing Solution

3 09 2008

If you experiencing all your iPhone apps crashing suddenly and all your music disappeared, don’t fret, I might have a solution for you till Apple releases the next firmware, which could be anytime soon in Sept as promised.

Don’t worry all your music and apps are still in your iPhone, it is the DRM issue with the Apple servers that is causing this problem. I agree that DRM should be abolish and we will not have to face this issue again.

Solution steps:
* OPTIONAL: perform a sync all in the application tab to back up any new downloaded apps in your broken iPhone (don’t worry your apps you purchased through the iphone are working including those that were deleted by Apple, such as Tris and Netshare, you just need to have a copy of it in iTunes)
* reactivate the authorization in iTunes
* restart iTunes
* connect your iPhone to the computer
* go to your application page to make sure all your purchased apps are there including Tris and Netshare, if not sync all again
* go to application tab located in your iPhone page in iTunes and uncheck sync all, it will prompt you that all your apps on your iPhone will be deleted, click ok (don’t worry), this will take some time
* once finished unplug the iPhone and hard reboot it by holding down the home button and power button until the Apple logo appears
* restart iTunes
* connect your iPhone
* go to application tab and choose the apps you want to sync back to your iPhone
* now all your apps should be working and your music should reappear in the iPod app

Enjoy!

Jott is Out of Beta and starts to charge

20 08 2008

Jott is out of beta and has started to charge for the service :( I knew this day would come as they would have to foot the bill to the greedy teleco companies, somehow or another. It was a fantastic service while it lasted. There is still a free service, but there is no outgoing email or text messaging support for your Jotts. Price start at $3.95 and up per month. I do wish them the very best and thank them for a wonderful free service while it lasted, but for now I will switch to Evernote.

Datacase is Out (Minor Troubleshoot Tip)

12 08 2008

Datacase is out, and it is going for $6.99. Basically it is a software that allows you to connect your iPhone to any computer as an external drive. Furthermore if you transfer any supported documents such as Word, PDF, Images, Video, Audio, etc… You will be able to view those documents natively on your iPhone. As for me, I was having some trouble uploading files from my Mac to Datacase last night and Mike at Veiosoft Support has been fantastic, in helping to troubleshoot my issues.

For all you Leopard folks, you should be off and running, if you are using Tiger, carry on reading, (I know I should be upgrading, I am just holding off till the next issue of Macbooks or maybe a MacNano? And I need to save $$$) Anyhow, DO NOT use the Finder “Connect to Server” option it would not work with Datacase, INSTEAD browse your Network Icon in your Finder to locate your iPhone and connect through there. Hope that helps.

Note: You can also set preferences of your “Volumes” (folders) in Datacase too.

Enjoy!

Still waiting on Datacase

11 08 2008

I am really excited about this app Veiosoft has created, check out the demo video. The latest news is that it has been submitted to Apple for approval since last week, the price is going to be $6.99, and now is just a waiting game. I do hope that it will get approve and not go through a fiasco like Netshare.

iPhone GPS Enable RangeFinder, vCaddy Yeah!

11 08 2008

It is finally here, a GPS enable range finder for your iPhone, called vCaddy, and it goes for $9.99. Developed by GolfMapz, which has a database of about 4800 courses around the US and growing (no International courses yet). Use this together with TeeShot and you definitely have one slick setup when you hit the links. I have yet to try it out, probably will this weekend :) Also keep a look for TeeShot 1.5 when it comes out, it is said to have multiple player support.

Enjoy!

GrandCentral App for iPhone

6 08 2008

I have been a BIG fan of Grandcentral, and have been using their service for quite a while. It is a service that assigns you a number of your choice to call all the phones you assign that number to. It is touted as a “One number for life service”, thus your contacts will never need to know if you change your cell numbers, home numbers, etc… as you will always be reachable via that 1 Grandcentral number.

The service also features filtering of calls, voicemail and many other goodies. The one feature it is currently lacking is SMS, but is stated as they are working on it for the future. I am quite sure down the road, there will be tighter integration with Google Apps as Google has bought out Grandcentral sometime back and definitely the possibility of integrating with Google Talk is very high. Keep a look out.

Back to the App, it is called Grandialer (Free) and it allows you to use your Grandcentral number to call your contacts, meaning which your Grandcentral number will show up as your caller id on the recipient’s phones. In order to achieve this, it uses the Grandcentral call back feature, and connects to your recipient and your Grandcentral number will then appear as your iPhone caller ID. Everything, happens very quickly and smoothly and best of all it works directly with your built-in iPhone contacts.

One thing though, just make sure under Settings > Phone number > type in your cell number as this will allow the app to call you back your iPhone, if there is no number there, it will not work.

Thanks to Scott Gruby for creating this!
